Another incursion into the World of DarknessĪlone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is the fourth title in the series and it brings back some of the well-known characters from the previous episode, including Edward Carnby himself. However, true horror titles used a different set of mechanics to inspire fear into the players, by replacing the huge monsters with unseen threats and taking away most of your guns, leaving you unable to shoot your way out of a situation. While the horror genre is not exactly new, it's certainly not as old as some of the other ones, unless you count the slightly scary platformers.
